Cultural arena celebrates rebel poet’s birth anniv in style

The 120th birth anniversary of Bidrohi Kobi (Rebel Poet) Kazi Nazrul Islam was celebrated in a befitting manner across the country on May 25 (Saturday). Besides the government’s massive initiative to mark the birth anniversary of Nazrul at the national level, various cultural organisations also celebrated the occasion in style.
The main programme was arranged at Trishal in Mymensingh, where the poet had a lot of memories. Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni attended the function as the chief guest. Chaired by State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid, Visva-Bharati University vice-chancellor Professor Bidyut Chakrabarty, chairman of Standing Committee on Religious Affairs Md Hafiz Ruhul Amin Madani and lawmaker Asim Kumar Ukil also attended the function as special guests.
Besides, the birth anniversary of the national poet was celebrated in the poet’s memorable places in Doulatpur in Cumilla, Tewta in Manikganj and Karpasdanga in Chuadanga and Chattogram.
In capital Dhaka, the celebration started with placing floral wreaths by the people of all strata at the poet’s grave beside the Dhaka University (DU) central mosque in the morning.
Different organizations, including Bangla Academy, Chhayanaut, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and Nazrul Institute organised different programmes to mark the day.
The Nazrul Jayanti programme of Chhayanaut began with the chorus rendition ‘Jago Amrita Piyashi Chito’ at Ramesh Chandra Dutt Memorial Auditorium of Chhayanaut Shangskriti Bhaban. Singer Suptika Mandal, Monish Sarkar, Mohito Khan, Aishwarya Samaddar, Tanvir Ahmed and other rendered solo songs while Sumona Biswas and Jayanta Ray recited poems at the event.
Bangla Academy organised a programme featuring discussion, music and recitation at the academy’s Poet Shamsur Rahman Seminar Hall yesterday (May 26). At the event, Dahlia Ahmed recited Nazrul’s poem ‘Bidrohi’, while Yasmin Mustari rendered Nazrul songs.
Presided over by National Professor Anisuzzaman, Professor Soumitra Sekhar delivered a speech on ‘Nazruler Prasongikota’ at the event.
Also, Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and private television channels aired special programmes and print media brought out special supplements highlighting the birth anniversary of the national poet.
