‘Judiciary is used to keep innocents in jail’: Kashmiri leader Geelani

SRINAGAR: Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani on 13 May condemned the judicial onslaught against the Hurriyat leaders and their family members.
In a statement issued to the media, Geelani said that on May 9, 2019 the bail petitions of Syed Shakeel Ahmad and Syed Shahid sons of Syed Salah-ud-din—-who have been falsely accused of ‘hawala’ without any proof or evidence were listed, but the court did not even bother to listen to the argument and simply gave a new date after 70 days i.e. July 18, 2019. This is how judiciary is being used just to keep innocents behind bars and get political mileage out of it, he said.
Hurriyat leader said that the rejection of the bail by the Indian Supreme Court, which was granted by Delhi High Court in favour of Kashmiri businessman Zahoor Ahmad Watali, was not only surprising but puts a big question mark on the free and fair legal system of India. “Although in the past also our people have faced the biased judicial system to satisfy their collective consciousness, but recent media outburst of four senior Supreme Court judges, speaks volumes of favoritism and political influence in Indian judiciary,” Syed Ali Geelani added.
