Synopsis: In a globalizing world, seeking more and more cheaper labour everyday, Bangladesh became one of the leading producer of the world clothing industry. In only 4 decades it became a 25 Billion US$ export industry, directly engaging 4 million workers, mostly women… and now targeting to double it by 2021 with 50 Billion US$ export! ‘Testimony of a Thread’ explores the connecting worlds of hope and despair around this industry lately marked for man-made catastrophes like Savar Building Tragedy (2013), considered as the deadliest garment-factory accident in history and deadliest accidental structural failure in modern human history.
Acclaim: Winner of ‘The Asian Pitch Award 2013’, organized by four leading Asian televisions – NHK from Japan, KBS from Korea, PTS from Taiwan and Mediacorp from Singapore.
About the Director : Auteur du jour Kamar Ahmad Simon first came into discussion with his feature-length non-fiction ‘Are You Listening!’ This young filmmaker has been invited in festivals like Cannes-Berlin as recognition of his on-going works. The National Film Award winner Kamar Ahmad Simon received a number of international awards including one in Piazza Grande, Grand Prix in Paris and Golden Conch in Mumbai. Born and brought up in an orthodox family in old Dhaka, Kamar graduated in Architecture.
Director’s Note: If I consider my 90 minutes long film ‘Are You Listening!’ a non-fiction feature, then the 52 minutes long ‘Testimony of a Thread’ should be called a short documentary. In fact, ‘Testimony of a Thread’ was perceived to document some urge or questions. In a happening world, before we could cope with an event, a new one surfaces… and we forget the old ones. Yet some events leave a mark, questions my silence not as a filmmaker but as a citizen and hurt us as human beings. As a person, I become limited. A documentation of such silly questions, a few harmless monologues and 52 minutes of not forgetting… ‘Testimony of a Thread’.
