People no longer independent in Bangladesh: BNP

BNP on Wednesday alleged that people are no longer independent in Bangladesh as the Awami League government has revived “one-party rule” in the country. “Though we achieved independence (in 1971), we don’t have freedom any more. We aren’t free at all as a heavy stone has been imposed on our chests,” said BNP Secretary General Mirza FakhrulIslam Alamgir.
The BNP leader also alleged that a conspiracy is being hatched to kill their imprisoned party Chairperson Khaleda Zia in a planned way. He made the remarks while addressing a press conference at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office in the city. Mirza Fakhrul said, “The health of Khaleda Zia has deteriorated further due to the indifference of prison authorities. If something bad happens, the government should bear all responsibilities.”
Her (Khaleda) family members went to meet her t the old central jail in Old Dhaka on Tuesday. They said that her health has worsened. She was unable to keep her head straight or fold her legs in court. She is not in good health, he further said.
The senior BNP leader also said, “A three-time prime minister, two-time leader of the opposition and Bangladesh’s most popular leader Begum Khaleda Zia isn’t receiving any medical treatment.” Mirza Fakhrul urged the authorities to shift Khaleda to her desired hospital with a view to ensuring proper treatment.
BNP Standing Committee Members Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Vice Chairman AZM Zahid Hossain, Chairperson’s Adviser Farhad Halim Donar, Senior Joint General Secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi were also present at the press conference.
